There are few things that are better than visiting Cape Cod during the summer. I can't describe all the fond memories I had going up there with my family and friends when I was little. But recently, I went up to Chatham with my wife, Jan, to visit one of my high school teachers, John Smith. I had been telling Jan what a great guy this was and she had become equally excited to meet him.
As we were driving up to Chatham, I was describing to Jan what great weather the Cape was known for. The sea breeze coming from the ocean would be such a welcome change from the hot stuffy weather we had been experiencing back home.
But, as soon as we got to Mr. Smith's house, it wasn't his house's beautiful decor I noticed, it was the hot and stuffy atmosphere inside. I couldn't believe it! I felt like I was in a sauna. Every other time I had been up to the Cape, it was so breezy and cool.
Mr. Smith told Jan and I that Chatham had been experiencing a heat wave. I thought that was normal, especially considering summer is officially on its way. Apparently, the National Weather Service was predicting that temperatures in Chatham would reach the mid-to-upper 80s. The high was even expected to reach 89 degrees later this week.
Thankfully, Mr. Smith reassured me that he had a couple an air conditioner units in his basement that would cool down his house. I must admit that Jan and I were pretty happy to hear this. We didn't know how we would be able to stay in Mr. Smith's house if he didn't have such an appliance.
Although the day was spent installing air conditioners, I have to say that feeling the cool air blow on my face after after a hard day of work made it all worth it!
